We are both architects working in different practices on a range of high profile buildings. For us, the opportunity to build our own home was exciting but also held a certain pressure of expectation on the architecture and the quality of the end product with our professional peers. Our design intent for the building sought to embody clarity of space and form, legibility of the construction and a systematic approach to the component methodology. This draws on the technology of buildings that we are both professionally involved with.
When tendering the project, our key concern at the preliminary interview was whether we could achieve this aspiration of quality in a domestic scale contract. We were very impressed by Robert Norman Construction from the first initial interview, they gave us clear views as to how they would approach the challenges and this gave us the confidence to award them the contract. They clearly understood the aspirations and crucially how the component based nature it suggested could assist in the site logistics (very tight site access and neighbourly adjacencies).
The construction involved the coordination of many key subcontractors of various scales. Their coordination of these groups within the very restricted site access and set up was commendable - this was from the technical coordination and interfaces to the personal neighbourly care.
We are delighted with the end product, it is beautifully made and in our view, a fine example of craftsmanship both traditional and industrial. Robert Norman Construction understood our aspirations and their commitment and dedication allowed us to continue the intent throughout the construction process. They were always positive and brought expertise and ideas to solving problems that inevitably arise. We are very used to working within complex contractual environments, so for us it was very refreshing to work with Robert Norman Construction as a team that was committed to delivering the highest quality.
We would whole heartedly recommend them.View project
